Can I complete my Private Pilot License faster than usual?
Yes. Motivated students can make faster progress by flying consistently. I recommend a structured plan of at least 3 flights per week, with each session around 3 hours total, including preflight, flight time, and debrief. Students should also complete ground study between lessons.
How often should I fly?
For best progress, I recommend flying 2–3 times per week minimum. Flying less often is possible, but students usually spend more time reviewing previous lessons.
Do I need experience before starting?
No. You can start with no aviation background. I’ll guide you step by step through the aircraft, airport environment, radio communication, maneuvers, and ground knowledge.
Do I need TSA approval?
U.S. citizens generally do not need TSA approval, but they must show proof of citizenship. Non-U.S. citizens usually need TSA approval before beginning flight training. You can request approval from the following page. Please search for Pura Vida Aviation in the training providers section: https://www.fts.tsa.dhs.gov/home
Can I train while working full-time?
Yes, but consistency matters. Students with full-time jobs usually do best by reserving recurring training blocks each week.
Where do you train?
Training is primarily available around Van Nuys (KVNY) and Whiteman (KWHP), with additional aircraft availability through trusted partners, including MH Aviation at Fox Field (KWJF).
Do I need to buy anything before starting?
Not everything on day one, but I recommend starting with a logbook, headset, FAA medical, and study materials. A lot of the material needed is available for free at the FAA Website.
